Jackson Heights: Know Your Rights, in Your Language
In a neighbourhood where dozens of languages are spoken on a single block, rights information only matters if people can understand it. Our know-your-rights workshops translate complex legal protections into plain language — and into the languages our neighbours actually speak.
Each session pairs a facilitator with community interpreters, walking through practical scenarios: what to do during an enforcement action, how to respond to a housing notice, what workplace protections exist regardless of status. Participants leave with printed pocket guides they can share at home.
Why it works
Trust is built in advance, not in a crisis. By meeting people where they are — in community spaces, in their languages, without an ask attached — we make sure the information is there before it's urgently needed.
